Dr. Joe Morecraft's Advice To Young Adults Desiring Marriage

There is great peace in God's Sovereignty.

  1. Accept your single state as a wise loving arrangement from your Heavenly Father. You are not single by accident.
  2. Exploit your present state of singleness. When you are married your time, energy and resources will be directed to your spouse. Use your time, energy and resources for the glory of God right now. Learn how to be faithful where God places you, diligent in the things God gives you to do and when God fulfills the desire of your heart He will cause you to be faithful in many things.
  3. While you're single, work on your undesirables and uglies. Go to those whose counsel you trust (your parents, close friends, mentors/elders) and ask them where you need improvement. Go to them and say, "Do you think there's something in me that needs to be changed and that's the reason I'm not married?" When they say, "Probably." Accept it with humility. "What are some of those things I need to change/improve?" Humility is an important part of singleness.
  4. Pray continually for God's preparation of you and His provision for you. You're not married because you're not ready. You are not adequately prepared. Ask God: "Whatever it takes to prepare me for the man/woman you have for me, please prepare me and while you're at it prepare him/her for me. While you're preparing me, provide him/her for me."
  5. Establish Christian relationships with God's people. Put yourself in the way of legitimate contacts and acquaintances. Don't go places where you don't expect Christians to be. Go where you will meet God-fearing, like-minded people. Don't be invisible.

Marriage

This works on all types of relationships, even one that has suffered neglect and abuse can be revived when “YOU” decide it’s worth it. Now stop your whining bout the situation and get to work on it in loving manner.
“Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never fails…” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Al & Rosemary - A Dynamic Duo

Al & Rosemary had children and were divorced after their spouses left them. Al said to God, "I picked out the last [wife]. Lord, You pick out this one." She was 29 and Al was 42 when they married.
When he proposed, Rosemary said, "Yes" with the condition that she put away his engagement ring and get to know Al for a year.  If for any reason either wanted out, they could do so. Rosemary believes this one-year test is biblical, yet it was very hard on him.
I asked if their children tried to put a wedge between them. She said that was a real problem. It took great trust in God for them to stand as a team. Eventually his children learned to love her, but that took some time.
Al is active at 85 and is still farming early till late six days a week. He eats mostly vegetarian with fish three times a week and other meat about three or four times a year. "

Her Beauty

Doug Wilson points out a father is responsible for the beauty of his daughter till she marries, then her husband is responsible for the beauty of his wife.

Eden Restored

Eternal wealth isn’t land, houses, cars and money; rather large families led by a father & mother dedicated to the kingdom and covenant of Christ. This battle determines the future. To see God’s heart here, read Psalm 78 especially 1-11.
True wealth is not vast numbers of ducks or even getting your ducks in duck houses. True wealth is ducklings raised with a Godly spirit of “Go-for-it!”  Every couple years you don’t invest, you lose the one you could have had.  ~David

One Whirlwind Weekend

Salmon Dinner

Regina is doing a hot-cold treatment
for her thumb she smashed in the sign maker.
Healing is remarkable.

Regina's story:
I had blood poisoning after my thumb got badly bruised in our sign maker. I thought is was just bruised, but after a couple days it hurt so much I was not using it for the space bar on my keyboard.

Saturday we attended the great Kaweah Old paths History Conference in the morning before heading to Yosemite for a wedding. Sunday morning I woke up with a red streak going up my arm.

I did an old hydrotherapy treatment a retired doctor taught us: four minutes soaking my arm in hot water (as hot as I could stand sometimes dipping it in and out) and one minute immersing my arm in cold water with ice.

I did this four times every 2-3 hours on Sunday, then two sessions on Monday morning. The red streak was gone by noon with only a bit of soreness left.

I took about four cloves garlic with each meal and 8-10 drops medicinal grade oregano oil in a capsule diluted with olive oil.

I also did the cold sheet treatment (Thank God for Mom helping and covering my mattress with plastic!) This treatment made me sweat out toxins. I've read that some people do this (even without the cold sheet part) when a cold is coming on and wake up better. It did help. I took two capsules cayenne, then a hot shower followed by two more capsules cayenne, wrapped myself in a cold wet flannel sheet, got in bed and covered up with two comforters.

We learned about hot and cold years ago when Mom had bronchitis. Doctor Shakespeare instructed me how to put hot towels on her chest (dipped in hot water and wrung out) and then a bag with crushed ice. She was exhausted at the end and went to sleep. The congestion started breaking up. We did another episode a couple days later and she was better.

Doctor Shakespeare used the treatment in Biafra during a civil war. He had very little medicine and people with limbs blown off and wounds coming to him. There he heated well water over a fire and used cool well water for the cold. He showed us slides of the people he'd helped and described how the infections started to drain and cleared up. Doctor says this increases circulation, drawing white blood cells to the area to work on the infection.

Adam is a great teacher.
He credits the catechisms for training the mind.
We were amazed with his careful
loving correction of his children. ~Es

I was awed to see a little one who could barely talk confess to her daddy that she had done wrong. She is constantly being gently and firmly corrected by the Law of God. That is the making of a joyful, godly woman. This is family evangelism. ~R

Getting a Good Shot

Friends visited while down for the Kaweah History Conference.
We enjoyed great speakers: Chuck Baldwin, John Weaver & Peter Hammond.

Checking the Brakes

I love the tradition of tossing the bouquet.
It is like passing the baton. ~Dinah

“The lot is cast into the lap
but every decision is from the Lord.”
~Prov. 16:33

Sat. evening in Yosemite:
It was dark out, so the girls below could not see it when Elisabeth tossed her bouquet. When someone shined a light, Dinah saw it lying on the pavement and thought, "Oh, no one caught it. I guess I can just pick it up."
We pray the newlyweds will understand that marriage is not just for them, it is for the Lord and an example to all.
As Steve Wilkins says: "Marriage is not [just] for you, it is for the Lord, it is [an example] for the world."

Patriarchy vs. Feminism

Martin Selbrede's constructive biblical critique of both Feminism and Patriarchy.

http://www.chalcedon.edu/articles/article.php?ArticleID=2965

Patriarchy is a great blessing, as long as it is under the Lord. Having lost someone we love through their idolatry to an ungodly autonomous patriarchy, we hate it almost as much as we hate godless autonomous feminism. We need to learn more how to apply God's word.

The Botkins have a saying that, every culture is a patriarchy. Some lead well for God's glory, while other cultures lead badly for Satan's glory.

Feminism is simply women helping tear down God's design in family, church and state. Godless patriarchy does the same thing and lays the groundwork for a culture under judgment.

There is a time for a lower magistrate to correct an higher magistrate.

Paul told the young Timothy how to correct an older man appealing to him as to a father. He is to speak to younger women as to sisters and older women as mothers.

Daughters are valuable here with brothers, sisters, Mom & Dad. A woman too can appeal to her husband.

Men are concerned with conquering. Women are concerned with relationships. Women need to help their men conquer rightly. Neither can do this without being under Christ.

Adam & Amy Mc Manus' Love Story

On June 13, 2007 in Virginia
During the Jamestown 400
We met the Hayden family
also
Adam & Amy McManus
at the Hot Air balloon rides.
They took a pic of us.
Caleb took the above picture of them.
Adam & Amy were fun to talk with.
This morning we opened a message from Adam.
It had a link to sign up for Adam's Army
- daily alerts for his radio show.
http://www.takeastand.net
Then we had a fun time reading their story.

Click below for their really sweet love story!
"God loves wedding days. He designed them to be a picture of heaven on earth. He invented them to be a foretaste of something far bigger than bride and groom, far more than cake and flowers. He created weddings to be a demonstration of who He is. So allow God to show you how breathtakingly beautiful your wedding day can be when the Author of lasting love becomes the Guest of Honor." ~Eric & Leslie Ludy

Third Person in the Marriage

When newly weds agree to obey whatever his father says,

they set him in the place of God,

thereby breaking their marriage covenant.

Some are teaching that the groom's father

has authority over the new family.

After witnessing this first hand,

many realize how insidious this is.
