Sutter's Fort in Sacramento

All but by wonderful mother, who snapped the picture.
Melody and Dinah with Pattie Reed's doll.

This doll was brought by a little girl in the Donner Party. Sadly, they left too late in the year and were caught in the terrible winter storms. They starved; some were reduced to cannibalism.

Behind our shoulders, is also a watch and a Masonic metal plate on a string. Mr. Reed gave this to his wife. She used it to trade with the Indians for food. He left in search of the fort. Later the Indian was found dead and the two items were returned to the man. I looked closely on the Masonic metal, and there were two rows of goat stars at the top.
Regina told Jodavid about Patty Reed's doll.

One picture we did not get was the apothecary, where I asked Dad,

"Wouldn't you like to be taken care of by those 'doctors.'"

"Yeah," he said, "and get mercury fed to me."

An automatic recording came on of a man's diary saying that the doctor had gone to care for one of the chief's daughters. He bled her a little. Later her father came by the fort and said she had gotten better. The next time he said she was doing well then on another visit he said she had died.
