Government Can't Save You

John MacArthur on page 21 of his book Why Government Can’t Save You speaking of Romans 13 says:

“…the Apostle [Paul] under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, gives this command without qualification or condition. We are to obey every civil authority no matter how immoral, cruel, un-godly or incompetent he or she might be…”

Mr. MacArthur’s conclusion is wrong because only to God can we yield complete obedience. If we place the civil magistrate in God’s place we have made him god, thereby breaking the 1^st commandment, “Thou shalt have no other gods before me”

Last year at our church’s annual Old Paths Christian History Conference one of the speakers, Pastor David Whitney, of Pasadena, Maryland, reminded us that “Courts do not make law” and also that “All law that is contrary to God’s law is NO LAW AT ALL!”
