"Fighting Breast Cancer with Flaxseeds"

"Women ate either a control muffin with no flax seeds imbedded or 25g flax-containing muffin starting at time of diagnosis of breast cancer for just 32-39 days until surgery. Tumor tissue analyzed at diagnosis and surgery demonstrated surprising benefits even in this short time frame."

Immediate Action Required: Stop Indefinite Detention of U.S. Citizens Without Due Process

Immediate action required!

"Deep inside the National Defense Authorization Act (S. 1867) that the Senate is currently considering is a dangerous and unconstitutional portion that needs to be stripped out. Congress would grant the President the power to use the military in order to detain certain individuals, including American citizens, without trial or due process, indefinitely.

Section 1031 of the National Defense Authorization Act reads: “Congress affirms that the authority of the President to use all necessary and appropriate force … includes the authority for the Armed Forces of the United States to detain covered persons…. [including] [d]etention under the law of war without trial....” This “indefinite detention” section hands over to the Executive Branch the power to have the military arrest U.S. citizens. No trial needed. Simple suspicion would suffice.

This could be quite reminiscent of Stalinist Russia where a knock on the door in the middle of the night meant that the person taken by the military was often never seen again, perhaps having been imprisoned in Siberia or executed. The Japanese American Citizens League has warned that this measure’s detention principles are similar to the ones that sent innocent Japanese-Americans into concentration camps during WW II..."

Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly implore His protection, aid and favors...
Now therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these states to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the Beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country, and for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

for those around me.

It's (Not That) Complicated

Excerpt from It’s (Not That) Complicated

How do young men and young women interact with one another when marriage is not in view? Can young men and young women be ‘friends’? And how does a young woman guard her heart, preserve her purity, and walk in integrity without treating young men with disdain? In It’s (Not That) Complicated, Anna Sofia and Elizabeth Botkin address these and other questions with wisdom, grace, transparency, and biblical acuity.

Looking for a good church in Bakersfield?

We all enjoyed Covenant Presbyterian in Bakersfield.  The components of the service fit together beautifully as the songs applied to the teaching.

Pastor Randy Martin is an excellent teacher.  In Sunday School he taught about sharing our faith and assisted the students to list concepts people need to understand to come to faith in Christ.  He showed from a survey, that unless believers are trained in sharing their faith, 90% of the time, they do not.

In the sermon, Randy reminded us that after St. Paul's  conversion, he spent three years in Ephesus, going house to house, teaching and equipping the church with humility and tears, before he met Peter. It was 14 years after his conversion before he met the rest of the apostles.  Paul used his biography of negative qualifications (a persecutor of the church), and abnormal apostleship (never walked with Jesus), not for humor or to build himself up, but to authenticate his message.  pcabakersfield/sermons/Authenticity
