Superfood ~ Spirulina Chocolate Balls

In VitaMix blend together powders:
1 ½ c Carob Powder
1 ½ c  Raw Cocoa Powder
c  Ground Flax Seed
¼ c  Spirulina Powder
c Coconut or Peanut Flour
¼ c spice mix or these:
1 T Cinnamon
1 T Coriander
1 T Nutmeg
1  t Allspice
1  t Cloves
1  t Mace

Add powdered mixture to a large bowl with nuts and seeds:
c Chia seed
1 ½ c  Almonds
1 ½ c  Walnuts, broken
¼ c unsalted
¼ c Goji Berries
¼ c Unsalted Pistachios
c Pumpkin seeds
1½ c  Dates, chopped
½ c raisins or chopped dried mango

Combine:
3 c  Filtered Water
5 drops of Peppermint Oil
2 t  Vanilla Extract

Stir in the liquid ingredients.
Form into balls and roll in one of these:
Unsweetened Desiccated Coconut
Sesame Seeds, Hempseed

You may want to wear thin gloves to roll into small balls because it is messy.  [I use the melon scoop from BB&B.] Place in sandwich bags and hide in the freezer. Keep just one bag in the refrigerator at a time. Sometimes you can get them to last a bit if the men aren't aware how much is stashed away. :)
A bag left in the van for a week will go bad and taste terrible. They need refrigeration.

To make measuring spices simple, I keep a small jar of about 6 T each of cinnamon, nutmeg, coriander and 2 T each of allspice, mace, cloves.  With this mixture done ahead, just use ¼ c of the spice mixture for this recipe. These spices are an excellent source of antioxidants to sprinkle on breakfast oatmeal.

Vegetable Juicing

Whole lemon & lime are part of our daily routine of juicing for one gallon to last the day: 3 Zucchini, 2 large Beets & their Greens, 15 (3 lbs.) Carrots, head of Celery, 2 lg. or 4 small Green Apples, 3/4" cube of Ginger, slice of Red Cabbage, and topped with a long squirt of Flaxseed Oil and a few shakes of Cayenne. Mmm fresh juice is marvelous. The rest is stored for a snack later.
We love it!
David is just coming off a three week juice fast yet was busy working (even taking time out to run 4 mi and do 500 pushups every 3-4 days).

Very fortunately for me, I'm thin so David doesn't bug me about losing weight.
He would tell me that he wants to be thin like me.
To this I replied, "Oh NO, sweetie. You look great!"
David stopped his juice fast when he reached his desired "perfect" 160 lbs.
Juice fasting is much easier than water fasting because the body is nourished and satisfied.

Here's Danny Vierra:

I am concentrating on vegetables this fast, but adding a some apples, hard pears, tomatoes, squash, eggplant, jalapeño, and bell peppers from time to time. Daily, I am taking 1 to 2 tablespoons of organic flaxseed oil (essential fatty acids) and 25 grams of hemp protein powder (essential amino acids) in my juices to avoid muscle loss. Try using the hemp powder in a just carrot and celery juice because it will be easier to stomach.
I am using a Breville BJE510XL Juice Fountain Multi-Speed 900-Watt Juicer I bought off Amazon ($194.00). It is very fast and easy to clean. It juices all kinds of greens which made it attractive to me.
The amount I drink at a time may vary. I drink 12 oz. to 32 oz. depending on my need.

Six Worst Foods for Diabetes

"The devastating complications and premature deaths associated with diabetes can be prevented." ~Dr. Joel Fuhrman

The worst foods for diabetes — the foods that elevate blood sugar, reduce insulin sensitivity and increase type 2 diabetes risk — are the foods that are most common in the standard American diet.
are most common in the standard American diet.

1. Added Sugars: Fruit juices and sugary processed foods and desserts
2. Refined Grains: White Rice & White Flour Products
3. Fried Foods
4. Trans Fats: Margarine, Shortening, Fast Food, Processed Baked Goods
5. Red & Processed Meats
6. Whole Eggs: Diabetics who ate more than one egg/day doubled their cardiovascular disease or death risk compared to diabetics who ate less than one egg per week.

Epi-pen Death?

From personal experience: epi-pens are about as traumatic to the body as the allergen (in my case bee stings). I asked an EMT about this story. He said that the girl died of Epinephrine over-dose.  Her heart simply couldn't take it.
We have found lobelia to be a life saving herb. It relaxes the bronchial tree (so I can breathe) and causes much needed vomiting. When needed, a tincture is the easiest way for me to take lobelia.

Chi Machine

At night, when I'm tired but can't sleep because my mind is "wired," 15 min. on the chi machine prepares me to sleep. In the morning, it is exuberayting.

I bought ours for $100 from our chiropractor. He is about 85, uses it 15 min. morning and evening, and is unusually agile. His wife does NOT use it and seems 20 years older. I used it 15 min. each session from the beginning.

Nothing Like Nursing Your Baby

Human milk is constantly changing in composition from feeding to feeding. As the baby gets older, the composition of human milk changes as well. Human milk contains more than 200 known components, and some that have yet to be discovered! Human milk is a living substance, full of some amazing properties. The benefits of human milk for both baby and mama are well known.

Read More:

What Are The “Ingredients” in Human Milk?

Human milk has many benefits.
It's easier for your baby to digest.
It doesn't need to be prepared.
It's always available.
It has all the nutrients, calories, and fluids your baby needs to be healthy.
It has growth factors that ensure the best development of your baby's organs.
It has many substances that formulas don't have that protect your baby from many diseases and infections. In fact, breastfed babies are less likely to have: Ear infections, Diarrhea, Pneumonia, wheezing, and bronchiolitis, and other bacterial and viral infections, such as meningitis

Research also suggests that breastfeeding may help to protect against obesity, diabetes, sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), asthma, eczema, colitis, and some cancers.

Breastfeeding is good for your health because it helps:

Release hormones in your body that promote mothering behavior.

Return your uterus to the size it was before pregnancy more quickly.

Burn more calories, which may help you lose the weight you gained during pregnancy.

Delay the return of your menstrual period to help keep iron in your body.

Provide contraception, if these 3 conditions are met: You are exclusively breastfeeding and not giving your baby any other supplements. It is within the first 6 months after birth, Your period has not returned.
[Eating a plant-based diet, I found that as long as I nursed without supplementing my baby’s diet, my periods did not return and I did not get pregnant. Our seven children are spaced by breast feeding only and are approximately two years apart. ~Esther Seppi]

Reduce the risk of ovarian cancer and breast cancer. Keep bones strong, which helps protect against bone fractures in older age.

Dr. Neal Bringe on Opportunities To Provide Wellness And Vitality

Modern lifestyles and poor diets are linked to an overweight population with chronic inflammation and a lack of wellness and vitality...

It can be beneficial to replace some of the sugar and fat of processed foods with lower calorie sources of functionality (e.g., non-caloric sweetener, fiber). However, this approach may encourage a habit of regular indulgence of foods that may be better reserved for limited occasions (e.g., grilled/fried  meat, processed cheese, cakes, cookies, chips, and crackers). Reduced-calorie versions of some foods may still contain significant levels of pro-inflammatory compounds (e.g., bacterial endotoxins, heterocyclic amines, acrylamide) and lack gut-protective nutrients relative to fresh vegetables and berries. Studies of healthful populations and experiences of people who maintain healthy weights and wellness support a diet of fresh, minimally processed, mostly plant-based whole foods (fruits, berries, vegetables, legumes, nuts, grains, spices, and herbs). Thus, there is an opportunity to make these foods more convenient and delicious.

What Does The Bible Say About Food?

The Christian Philosophy of Food by Peter Bringe brings the light of Scripture into the confused and sometimes dangerous world of diet and nutrition. It is a door-opener for Christians to see what God has said about food. This courageous work is full of solid biblical principles for a life of health and blessing.
Peter begins with a call to humility and fear of God: Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones” (Prov. 3:7-8) and,“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.” (Prov. 1:7)

He launches into Genesis 1:29: “God said, ‘Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.’” From this verse the author sees plant foods as central in diet and nutrition. This is a bold statement; the American pulpit has been long silent because of the volatile controversy of Vegetarianism. Peter responds with these words: “The Bible teaches that plant foods are more central and important...Only plant foods are given as food in the beginning, for animals as well as man. Even after the fall mankind was restricted to only eating plant foods until after the flood. It would follow that plant foods are the foundational food for mankind.”

Peter offers a Christian food pyramid that follows the progressive revelation of scripture. Prioritizing plant foods at the foundation base of the triangle (Gen. 1:29), clean meats following (Lev. 11), and unclean meats last (Mark 7:15-19, Acts 10:12-16).

“A predominately plant food diet is a defense against the argument that we cannot produce enough food for a growing population and so should not obey God’s command to ‘Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth.’” (Gen. 1:28) An acre of land used for cattle can supply 77 days of one adult’s protein needs. In contrast, if used for soybeans, it could supply 2,224 days of sustenance for an adult. “By eating more plant foods we are taking better and more efficient dominion of the earth.”

For some years a friend, Dr. Paul Shakespeare, came over every Monday and taught us about health, and the damages and dangers of unhealthy eating. As a missionary doctor in war-torn Biafra, in the 70‘s, starving refugees came, fleeing the devastation. Among these were pregnant mothers. Only those who were able to grow and eat black-eye beans, their babies lived (the beans contained enough protein and folate for the little ones to survive.)

Worried about protein deficiencies with a plant-based diet? “Broccoli contains more protein per calorie than steak.” Look at the apes and gorillas if you think you must have meat to build muscle.

Next Peter addresses meat: “Even though plant food is more basic to our diet,” he writes, “God has also given us meat to eat.”

The Bible’s view of clean and unclean meats has been vindicated by Dr. David Macht in 1953. At John Hopkins University he studied the toxic effects of animal flesh. He found that clean animals were found to be nontoxic and all unclean meats were classified as toxic.
A byproduct our de-relationalized culture, Peter points out, is “pop-food,” which sacrifices health, lacks personal character, and appeals to the lowest common denominator of taste-buds.

Always keeping food and health in balance, Peter writes, “There is a time to eat conservatively, paying close attention to health, but there are also times to feast and make merry.” We are to be neither sensually self-centered or health obsessed, but to eat to the glory of God. “Food, hospitality, and relationships are strongly connected,” Peter writes. Food is meant to be enjoyed in community. “Simple and ancient things like eating and conversing together as a family are foundational to a Christian culture and society.”

“For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” (Rom. 14:17)

In this book we find the wisdom and knowledge necessary for meaningful change, encouragement for eating more plant foods and a balanced biblical approach to diet and health. The book has fresh strength from God’s law as it advances Christian culture. We come to realize that all of life is holy. Behind this book is the covenant keeping God “Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.”

Glucose from Starch

Here is glucose on paragraph 4 of pg. 13 of The Birth Partner:

Benefits of a High-Carbohydrate Diet.  A diet high in starchy foods has been shown to increase the amount of glycogen stored in muscle. During muscular exertion, the glycogen is converted to glucose, the muscle's energy source. If the body's glycogen stores are depleted, then fat is converted to glycogen. Fat conversion, however, does not work as well as glycogen conversion. As fat is used to provide energy, byproducts called ketone bodies accumulate in the blood, causing ketosis, a condition that can slow labor or, if the buildup is great, even cause fetal distress...

I loved reading this because birthing for me became easier after our diet change before our third (of seven) was conceived. He was 22 in. long and weighed 9 lbs. 5 oz. but was the easiest to deliver.  Lance is now 6' 4".

Some good starches are sweet potatoes, brown rice, quinoa, millet, potatoes, amaranth and of course lots of veggies and beans.

Barlean's Fresh Flax Oil

My menstrual peroids were very painful, incapacitating me for about 2 days per cycle. Dizziness, vomiting and a fever-like sensation came each cycle. Then I tried Flax oil.

A dear friend encouraged me to see a Dr. about it. So I called our naturopath. He suggested: 3 Tablespoons of flax oil for 6 weeks. "You have to take enough of it to make it work. It clears up about 80% of cases."
He sent it in two-day priority mail. He gets it fresh from the factory and stores it in a freezer. It tastes so good on potatoes, rice, beans or bread.
It worked! After about 3 weeks of taking it and exercising once a week (4 mile walk/run) my menstrual cycle was painless! It was like I was living in paradise, I had lots of energy. I jogged 4 miles with dad, ran 30 flights of stairs, cooked, cleaned and did all the normal daily chores during my period. I had always heard that all women should take flax oil, that it was good for their hormones and that it was really good for children with growing brains, but now I know it is true.

Make sure your source is fresh. Many health food sources sell it rancid and bitter.
