John & Abagail Adams

lived at a transitional time from the old puritan to the European "Enlightenment." He loved liberty, but believed in a strong centralized government, a nation that would one day be "an empire." He believed that the Constitution would cement the states together. He wanted the federal government to be in control of the states. He favored government controlled education.
John Adams embodies the best and the worst ideas in the War for American Independence. ~Lance
