Saturday Morning Online Mentoring with Geoffrey Botkin

Join Geoffrey Botkin online on Saturday mornings to discuss the practical issues of manhood! Hear Geoffrey share from Scripture and his own years of experience how to think and act like a Christian man amidst a culture which makes war on genuine manhood. These discussions will be extremely practical and interactive as men from across America bring their questions about their roles in work, husbanding, fatherhood, and the Church.

Sessions will take place between 9 and 10 a.m., Central Time, from January 2 through February 27, 2010. The cost for these nine sessions is $49 per man (sons may listen in with their fathers), and participants in this charter online class will receive a discount off the next.

Some topics Geoffrey will address over this nine-week period:

  • How to defend the faith: Love your wife
  • What every man needs to know before he dies
  • How family worship changes the world
  • How to think like a man in an adolescent culture
  • How to fight like a man in a defeated culture
  • How you and your sons can be involved in local church leadership
  • How to take command in your home
  • Understanding the Quadrivocational mission
  • Why long term planning is essential to a fruitful legacy

From Regina: Mentoring is world changing. Jesus spent three years discipling 12 men. He used these mortal men to build His church.

One of the greatest things Dad has done for us is love Mom and praise her in front of us.

If a man does not love his wife it is a picture of Christ not loving the church. That blasphemes Him before the world and especially the children in that man's home. A girl I know once said that she would rather be a mistress than a wife because she thought a mistress would be treated better. Her father is an ordained minister, but does not love or honor his wife.

In a couple short weeks four Seppi’s will be traveling to beautiful Santa Cruz, for West Coast Christian Worldview Conference. While Santa Cruz is a cool respite from a hot summer, it is much more beautiful by the wonderful friends we meet.

Lots of speakers, recreation in the afternoon and Civil War era dancing or talk and small group devotionals in the evening.

His talks are:

• The Impact of Pop Culture on Worldviews—from Superman and Elvis to The Beatles and Obama

• Is it Really the End of the World or am I Just Having a Bad Day?

• “We’re From the Government, and We’re Not Here to Help You.”

Fly or Drive to San Antonio

At first, there were three young Seppi's longing to go
to Vision Forum's Christian Film Academy
so we bought flight tickets for them.
We have not flown since Feb. 1990
Dinah was six weeks old.
Now she's 19 years.
Victor ribbed Lance about
all he'd be missing out on.
It became almost unbearable,
all those great speakers and authors,
whom Lance reads, listens to on his ipod and quotes.
And he wanted to fly. It's been such a long time since he was two.
The memories are only faint, and boy, was he jealous!
The price of flying grew even higher.
We could have driven the entire family for the cost of one plane ticket.
Lance spoke about his concern for a church in Ridgecrest
where his good friend preaches half the time
and they watch a fine minister on video the other half.
I recommended he offer to speak there.
He did.
He poured hours and hours into preparation.
Regina helped him lay out his talk.
On Sunday morning
We dropped off the three at the
Bakersfield Airport on the way to Ridgecrest.
I loved Lance's sermon.
His delivery will improve with time,
but he certainly had our attention!
And his content was excellent.
We sensed God had sent him there
to equipt the saints.
When we got home,
we talked to the three in San Antonio.
Regina was glad to be there.
But she said something profound:
"I'd rather tote an ice chest into an elevator
and drive out with my family, than ride a plane."
Friends from Sacremento were driving out just for the festival
so Lance made arrangements to go with them
they swung by for Lance and Dinah
to join them on the long treck.
We pray God will bless their conversation
give them safe travel
and bring them back
to us.

Orthodoxy: Unity and Diversity in Christ’s Church

Debbie, part of Grace Reformation,

Opened her beautiful home to all eight of us.

At 50, Debbie has never been married

And is a great example of Christian service.

Regretably, we have no pictures of her. ~ Esther

Dr. Barry Horner, Dr. Gary DeMar, Mr. David VanDrunen, and Pastor Tom Schreiner arrived with their respective hosts. When Barry Horner arrived (Gary’s opponent of the next day) Lance enthusiastically greeted him and told him that he was aspiring to be as great a debater as Gary DeMar. The poor fellow, you could see him stiffen as a wave of shock washed over his face.
Mother wanted us to take notes, but I waited a long time to get my purse. Just as Regina and I came in, Dr. DeMar came in along with Pastor Poarch and the Schreiner’s.J We were soon at the entrance when Gary noticed Regina and I and greeted us with a smile and a handshake. We ran out to the van and got my stuff. Inside the door there was Gary surrounded by Daddy, Dinah, the guys and a few others. We joined the circle and chatted with him until the debate.
Pastor Poarch came up to Dr. DeMar and said; “When these people came to my church I thought they were all excited about ME but it turned out that they're excited about YOU!” He walked away with a grin. Gary laughed. He came back later with offers of security in case of being mobbed. All to rib us, of course. J

That evening was the Paedo v. Credo, Infant v. Believer Baptism debate. Each side first presented their position and then VanDrunen and Schreiner along with a moderator sat down questioned each other, discussed and then answered questions.

Basically VanDrunen made the case that baptism replaces circumcision and therefore as in the New Testament whole households rejoiced and were baptized. Baptism does not save us, but is an act of obedience.

Infants ought to be baptized [or dedicated to the LORD.] ~Melody

A sweet family helping host the conference.

Joy, (far right) is originally from Ukraine.

She and her husband met through

Yahoo Personals and married in March.

He liked her entry because she was not trying

to get all the right things mentioned

or what she wanted in a husband.

She just wrote why Christ is important.

They are expecting their first, a little girl, in January. ~ Regina

Connie and Dan cordinated music before the Credo/Pado baptism debate.
Eschatology Forum on Matthew 24
The moderator, explained his accent; "I like this, we've got Gary and Barry.
It makes a Scotsman happy to be able to roll my RRs."
Gary, can you explain the Mellinum to us?
Luke O. brought about 20 people.

After the debate this sweet lady came up to Mr. DeMar and had a lot of questions about what he believed about the Jews. She is married to a Jewish Christian and was concerned about Christians treating the Jews as the people of God because of their nationality and being the children of Abraham.

God said to Abraham Genesis 12:3 "I will bless those who bless you,

And I will curse him who curses you;

And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed."

But who are the true seed of Abraham: The Jews or Christians?

Galatians 3:7 Says “Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham. 8 And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham before hand, saying, ‘In you all the nations shall be blessed.’ 9 So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham.”

Galatians 3:26 says “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free , there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29And if you are Christ’s then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”

Galatians 4:28 “Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are children of promise. 29 But, as he who was born according to the flesh then persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, Even so it is now. 30 Nevertheless what does the Scripture say?” Cast out the bondwoman and her son, for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.” 31So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman but of the free. ~ Dinah

Ligonier Conference in Scottsdale, Arizona

Dear Mr. and Mrs. D,

Thank you for the wonderful blessed time with your family.

I enjoyed meeting Mike Turry and him telling us about his children baptized by R.J. Rushdoony.

On our way I enjoyed Mr. D' funny jokes and stories.
The speakers were dynamic, enjoyable and exciting.
John MacArthur's talk on evil was revealing: "God wills evil to exist, allows it and is sovereign over it." Ligon Duncan showed that postmodernism reduces the Bible to a smorgasbord of stories and "what works well for you." R.C. Sproul's lectures were outstanding. His last talk was our favorite; when he spoke about John the Baptist coming on the scene saying, "The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand...The ax is already at the root of the tree," so close was the kingdom.

Jesus repeated John, "The kingdom of Heaven is at hand...If I cast out demons by the Spirit of God then the Kingdom of God has come upon you.” R.C. Sproul added, “We are living in the kingdom…Since the Kingdom of God has come, take the gospel to the uttermost ends of the earth.”

Gary DeMar has said "Every earthly endeavor should be considered Kingdom activity, whether family, Church, business, or politics. We are ambassadors, representatives of our King in His Kingdom." II Cor. 5:20
I had been hoping to go to that conference for nearly a year. Thank you for the delightful trip to Scottsdale, Arizona. I'm so glad I got to attend.

I'm over halfway through your book Catholicism Unveiled. I was oblivious to many of its dangers.
Thank you for the valuable business advice and tips on being a good businessman: working hard, doing biggest job first, writing my plans, being diligent to use every minute wisely, working toward the future because we know who holds the future. Thank you for your wonderful hospitality. I enjoyed every minute of it.
Love,

Lance
