The beginning verses in Revelation as well as the ending verses tell the hearers that these things are shortly to take place. Revelation must be understood in it's time texts repeated throughout the book: near, shortly, quickly, at hand. Revelation is not a book in our future, Rev. chapters 1-19 took place in our past. Yes it is written for us, but it was written to them, to those who were about to flee Jerusalem
